Escape The Wind turned in a gritty victory in Saturday’s seventh race at Woodbine Racetrack and, in the process, went over the $2 million mark in career earnings
.
Jack Moiseyev sent the nine-year-old gelded son of Artiscape - Chicole straight to the front from Post 1 and set all the fractions before facing a stiff challenge from Proven Lover in the third quarter.
That rival, in fact, poked a head in front of Escape The Wind as the field turned for home, but the veteran dug deep to rebuff that challenge and win by a half length in 1:53.1.
It was the 52nd career victory for Escape The Wind who is trained by Roger Mayotte for the Venture 2000 Stable of Mississauga, Ontario.
Mayotte, who was seriously injured during an accident at Woodbine on March 2nd, was on hand for the presentation and told WEG media that he is mending quickly and has been back at the barn on a regular basis.
“This has been my biggest thrill since the accident,” Mayotte told Trot Insider. “It was nice to go over the $2 million with a win as he did when he reached the $1 million plateau. He’s been a great horse for everyone involved.”

I was very pleased to see
I was very pleased to see Escape The Wind reach the 2 million mark.I had the pleasure of meeting Mr.Mayotte and spending time with assistant trainer Rob McRae whom i met thru my brother in law,joe nicholson.I even got to get close to the horse himself,a very impressive athlete indeed.I have followed his racing career for the last few years from here in the province of nova scotia, and was very impressed with his efforts, especially ,it seems on nights where the weather was far from ideal.Congratulations to all involved especially to Mr.Mayotte, whose reputation as a great trainer and horseman is known far and wide.I would also like to extend to Mr Mayotte my wishes for his speedy recovery and return to the sport full time, thanks.
