Trainer Rod Starkewski has enjoyed a solid start to his 2017 season in western Canada, and his training triple during Sunday’s 10-race card at Century Downs certainly helped the cause.
Starkewski, who is now 8-8-8 from 51 starts this season, teamed up with driver Phil Giesbrecht to take the Sunday matinee’s opener with Getup Gideon in 1:55.3.
Bill Tainsh, Jr. then guided the Starkewski-trained Outlawtriggerhappy to a 1:56.2 triumph in Race 5. That same trainer/driver duo capped off the card winning Race 10 with Classy Artist in 1:57.1.
The 634-time winner has watched his UTR climb this season. He finished the day sitting at .296, after sitting in the low to mid-200s over the last three campaigns. Starkewski’s troops have banked close to $47,000 this year and more than $4.6 million to date.
