Veterinarian Dr. Paul Johnston of the Avon Animal Hospital in Windsor, Nova Scotia has been cited as saying that he is aware of 12 to 15 cases of strangles in the West Hants area.

News of the strangles outbreak, particularly in the Windsor area, broke earlier this week.

A report by Nova Scotia News Now has quoted Dr. Johnston as saying that horses that travel should be vaccinated.

“If your horse is going to go to exhibitions and horse shows and co-mingles with a lot of other horses, then we recommend vaccinating them,” Dr. Johnston was quoted as saying.
