With Gilles Barrieau in the bike, Galen Dempsey's seven-year-old gelding took command of the eight-horse field in the $1,850 event from Post 5 and cruised past fractions of :30.2, 1:01.1 and 1:31.2 en route to victory in 2:02.1. The son of Bettors Delight-Miss Nukachef won by a length and three-quarters over Obie Viking (Scott Hubbard) and Michaels Pleasure (Michael Downey).
A runner-up in his first start of the year last Saturday, 'Buster' has banked $1,350 in two 2011 outings. The 22-time career winner, who has raced in Maine for much of his aged career, surpassed the $70,000 mark in career earnings with his Saturday afternoon prize.
