Three-year-old pacing fillies sparred in a set of $18,000 divisions of the Ontario Sires Spring Series which got underway Thursday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The suddenly streaking Wildcat Star extended her winning streak to three-in-a-row thanks to her 1:55.2 score in the first division.
James MacDonald got away fourth with the 4-5 favourite while Infinity Seelster shot to the top and produced a :28.3 first fraction. She was then overtaken in the backstretch by Baby Bonita who sliced out middle splits of :58 and 1:26.2. MacDonald latched onto second-over cover late in the mile, and he and Wildcat Star then used a :28.2 closing quarter to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Lyons Princess. Addictivebehaviour was third.
Trainer Tim Gillespie co-owns the homebred with Wildcat Stables Inc. The partners watched the daughter of Bettors Delight-Wildcat Magic improve her 2022 record to 4-3-1 from 10 starts while pushing her lifetime earnings to $56,900.
Fromakingtoaqueen was a wire-to-wire winner in the second division in a sharp clocking of 1:54.2 for Team McNair.
Doug McNair hustled the homebred to the lead from Post 7 and together they led the group through fractions of :29.3, :58.2 and 1:25.4 before sealing the deal with a final frame of :28.3. She held on to win by a neck over Girl In A Tavern. Race favourite Bettor Double Flip came on strong to be third.
The daughter of Artspeak-Queen Of Clubs is owned by trainer Gregg McNair and partner Ian Fleming. They’ve watched her manufacture a 3-2-0 record from eight trips to the track this season. The $9,000 payday bumped her overall bankroll to $45,610.
