Hour Lavec won the featured $11,000 Open Trot in 2:01 over a sloppy track at Buffalo Raceway on Friday night (April 19)
The win was the third in 13 attempts this season for Hour Lavec, who won the Open Trot last week. The seven-year-old Ontario-sired son of Mr Lavec is trained by Megan Wilson and owned by Finish Line Investors of Rochester, New York and driver John Cummings Jr. of Williamville, New York.
Cummings Jr. put Hour Lavec ($4.40), the 6-5 favourite in the race, on the lead and he set all the the fractions in the race of :30.3, 1:01.1 and 1:31 to the three-quarter marker. A :30 last quarter-mile put the winner six and a quarter lengths ahead of second-place finisher Hailstorm Volo (Ron Beback Jr.) at the finish line. Serious George (Kevin Cummings) came in third.
The $5,500 winner's share of the purse put Hour Lavec’s seasonal earnings at $28,640 and lifetime bankroll at $386,566. The win was his 25th in 118 lifetime starts.
Congratulations goes out to new provisional driver Drew Monti, who at 18 years old won his first pari-mutuel win aboard Mister Grin ($4.60) in the third race.
Racing will resume on Saturday April 18 with first post scheduled for 6:40 p.m. eastern time. The Pick 7 still has not been hit since the beginning of the meet and sits at $21,984.25 going into Saturday night.
