A pair of votes which would have overridden Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman's veto of 'Instant Racing' legislation came about as close as they possibly could on Wednesday, April 18, but ultimately fell short

.

A report by the Omaha World-Herald explains that 30 votes were needed to override the veto, but that the outcome of the voting was 28-20 and 29-20.

"How can he (Gov. Heineman) support giving a $3.5-million tax break for Yahoo so they can bring 40 jobs to Nebraska and turn his back on the thousands of jobs provided by horseracing?" the report quoted Horsemen's Park General Manager Greg Hosch as saying.

Gov. Heineman had previously said that the legislation, LB 806, would have expanded gaming beyond what the Nebraska Constitution allows, and that the bill "contradicts the spirit of the live horse racing provisions" in the Constitution.
