A Ps Money Maker was too hot for the competition to handle in Friday’s $38,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Woodbine Racetrack, and she was almost too much for the teletimer to handle, as well
.
With Rick Zeron at the lines, A Ps Money Maker turned in North America’s fastest mile of 2010 for a female pacer regardless of age or track size when she blazed over Woodbine’s seven-eighths of a mile oval in 1:50.
Zeron was in no hurry in the early part of the mile with the Travis Umphrey pupil, who got away sixth in the field of seven. Voelz Hanover, however, was on fire in the early going as she whizzed by the quarter pole in :25.3. Windsong Filou was parked in the first turn before clearing in the backstretch, but she didn’t have control for long.
Mario Baillargeon came right back around to reclaim the lead with Voelz Hanover, and she roared past the mid-way point in :54.1. Four Starzz Meliss was hot on her heels, however, and in a matter of strides she had motored to the lead. She took the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:22 before hooking up for round two with sparring partner Voelz Hanover.
Voelz Hanover wrestled away the lead from Four Starzz Meliss, but with all of her early battling she left herself vulnerable for challengers from the backfield. A Ps Money Maker was stacked up third over around the final turn, but when she swung off the final turn she was full of pace. She kicked home in a :27-second clip, and that was more than enough to propel her to the win in a career-best clocking of 1:50. Voelz Hanover was a very determined runner-up while third prize went to a class-jumping Blissfull Kiss.
Alberta partners Terry Hamilton, Joe Tinelli and Shir Win Racing Stable pay the bills and cash the cheques on the five-year-old daughter of Cardmaster Hanover-Mint Kondition. The lightly-raced mare went 3-for-9 last season and now sports a 3-for-7 record this year. Her 16 lifetime wins have helped her stash away more than $367,000 in career earnings.
