In the May 2009 issue of Trot Magazine, Ken Warkentin and Paul MacDonell were profiled in the Separated at Birth feature. In May 2010, they will each make their first appearance at Sweden's Solvalla Racecourse
.
Meadowlands' announcer and TV host Ken Warkentin will be at Solvalla from May 25-31, calling some races prior to the Elitlopp and possibly some races that day.
"I’m just thrilled to be going," Warkentin told Trot Insider, "I’ll be calling some races, doing some TV, who knows what else?! I’m excited to be a part of it and I’m sure it will be quite an experience!"
Johan Lindberg, head editor of Sweden's kanal75 was one of the individuals that negotiated to bring Warkentin over.
"I think it will be a very good idea to have Ken here," Lindberg told Trot Insider, "He's pretty famous here from his call in the 2001 Hambo with Scarlet Knight and Stefan Melander. They sampled his 'Man on the Moon' call in a song about the horse."
Lindberg confirmed that Warkentin would be calling races throughout the week, including a race in which Solvalla's announcer Patrik Nilsson and Warkentin will call the race together by trading off after each quarter-mile.
"He's one of the best racecallers in the US, and I think the people here will enjoy him," Lindberg continued in speaking about Warkentin. "When we've had American racecallers here in the past, we've had good reaction."
In addition, O'Brien Award winning driver Paul MacDonell will be introducing himself to European harness racing. The popular driver confirmed that he will be making the trek to drive trotter Define The World in both the Oslo Grand Prix in Norway on May 16 and the Elitlopp two weeks later. Volcanos permitting, MacDonell will be flying back to Canada between drives.
