After an action-packed first-half, Little Red Chev had things her own way on the front as she trotted home a commanding winner in Tuesday's featured $7,500 Preferred 3 at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Driven by Scott Coulter, the seven-year-old daughter of Duke Of York defeated her male adversaries, Spartan Victory (Ryan Holliday) and Federal Army (Bruce Richardson), by two and a half lengths in a season's-best 1:58.3.
With the inside post advantage, Avuncular (J Harris) secured the early lead in the first turn while the parked outside leaver, Rainbow Gold (Alfie Carroll), was hung out three-wide as Little Red Chev drove on from post two. Rainbow Gold did clear to command ahead of Little Red Chev after the :28 quarter, but the chestnut mare quickly looped to the lead on the way to the :58 half-mile mark. She led by more than two lengths to three-quarters in 1:28.1 while 6-5 favourite Seeyou Men (Robert Shepherd) advanced into the two-hole opening. He towed Spartan Victory into the mix and that trotter chased Little Red Chev down the stretch in second-place while Federal Army closed off his cover to edge out out Seeyou Men for third.
Owned by trainer Dennis Morrissey along with partners Ken Avery and Dr. David James Peden, Little Red Chev has won the Preferred 3 twice this year at The Raceway and now boasts 24 career victories and purse earnings totalling $194,029.
Sent postward as the 5-2 second wagering favourite, she paid $7.40 to win.
In other action, two-time O'Brien Award winner L A Delight's sophomore sister, Way Bettor, earned her first career win with a 2:01 tour of the London oval for the Robert McIntosh Stables Inc., C S X Stables, and Al McIntosh Holdings Inc. The second Bettors Delight-West Of L A filly won her third career start with Alfie Carroll in the sulky.
