"Thankfully, a lot of people, including the panel and [Ontario Horse Racing] more recently, are still talking about [‘Historical Racing’] being one of the products that could be an important piece of expanding the product mix and generating new revenue."

The above quote is from Woodbine Entertainment Group President and CEO Nick Eaves, who recently offered comments regarding the possible role that historical racing – also known as ‘Instant Racing’ – could play in the provincial horse racing landscape.

Eaves didn’t offer specifics in regard to whether WEG has conducted specific Instant Racing discussions with OHR or not, but his comments did convey that the alternative wagering option could be integrated into a variety of Woodbine’s wagering platforms.

He said that discussions haven’t been “significantly advanced,” but stated that Instant Racing “is a priority for sure in terms of a new product that can go into the system — that could be on-track, off-track, online — that can attract a new customer and, hopefully, deliver a new revenue stream to the industry."
