Gearson protected pylon positioning and was never headed on the lead as he motored to a 1:57.3 victory over a track labelled good in the $9,800 optional-claiming feature pace at The Raceway at the Western Fair Raceway on Wednesday, April 15.

Austin Sorrie commanded speed from the stallion as the gate pulled away, and Gearson charged into the first turn to secure the lead. He paced the opening fractions in :29 and 1:00 and picked up speed to three-quarters in 1:28.4 with Arundel Hanover (Nick Steward) first-over and making headway. Gearson opened up a gap to that rival and pocket-sitter Buzz Lightyear (Tyler Borth) as he turned for the stretch, and he was wound down late as he reached the line a 2-1/2-length winner in 1:57.3. Buzz Lightyear finished second, followed by All The Cheddar (Robert Doyle).

Gearson won for the second time this year in 10 starts, raising his lifetime totals to six victories and $36,675 in earnings from 44 starts. Gary Kingshott of Durham, Ont. trains, owns and bred the six-year-old son of Betterthancheddar-Changing Gears. The win price was $3.80.
