JJS Stables' homebred pacing mare Bestulldotanite rolled wire-to-wire to lower her own Canadian season's record in the featured $10,000 Preferred 2 Handicap for distaffers on Wednesday night at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Driver Bruce Richardson has now teamed up with Bestulldotanite for back-to-back Canadian season's record wins over a half-mile track (aged pacing mares) -- her latest in 1:55.2.
Firing from post five, the Robert Ellis trainee led the six-horse field through fractions of :27.1, :57.2 and 1:25.3 en route to the two and three-quarter length triumph. Eat Me Up and Alfie Carroll closed from fifth to secure the runner-up honours while pocket-sitters Ding and Travis Henry completed the top three finishers.
Coming off a dominant victory at the Preferred 3 level at Flamboro Downs last Thursday in 1:55.4 (a time she also paced on March 5), Bestulldotanite was the favourite and paid $4.30 to win.
In her last start at Western Fair in the same Preferred 2 class (April 1), she finished second in a dead-heat (with Russian Kisses, who was scratched from tonight's affair). The six-year-old Geartogear mare currently has a 5-3-1 summary line from 14 seasonal starts and earnings amounting to $27,635.
The win was her 19th lifetime and pushed her bankroll to $93,285.
Trainer Gord McDonnell and Vince Orlando's trotting gelding Prakasmakesperfect ($9.10) won a $7,500 Preferred 3 later on the card, holding off the pocket-pulling Excellence and Lorne House by a neck in a 1:59 career-best equalling mile. Carroll, Western Fair's leading reinsman, drove the seven-year-old son of Cr Excalibur, who is now six-for-10 on the season.
