Front-Stepping Win For Farmers Tuition

One week removed from a near miss in the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 for pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District, Farmers Tuition returned to London’s half-miler and delivered an impressive victory for the tandem of driver Trevor Henry and trainer Richard Moreau.

Henry was third and parked with Farmers Tuition at the quarter pole, but they eventually worked their way to the top – and once they got there this didn’t let anyone by. Farmers Tuition rolled the group through middle splits of :56.4 and 1:26 before using a :30.3 closing panel to win by four lengths in 1:56.3. Race favourite Twilight Seelster faced traffic woes in the mile and settled for second, while Mamasaidso held on for third prize after doing the first-over work.

Gerrie Tucker of Montreal, Quebec and Debbie Bird of Harwood, Ontario share ownership on the homebred, eight-year-old daughter of Apaches Fame-Holy Creek. The free-legged distaffer, who set a world record last season at Woodbine when she toured that oval in 1:50.4, won for the first time this season and for the 27th time in her career. The $5,000 payday lifted her lifetime earnings to $374,916.

Angel On the Wing was just as dominant in the $7,350 Preferred 3 for Fillies & Mares. The six-year-old daughter of Bo Knows Jate-Angels Uprising and driver Scott Coulter took over command shortly past the mid-way point and drew clear to win by 4-1/2 lengths over Mother Hen in 1:57. Royal Cover Up tagged along to finish third.

Sent off at odds of 12-1, Angel On The Wing nabbed her third win of the season for owner Gary Anderson of London, Ontario. The 13-time winner is inching closer to $100,000 in career earnings. Tuesday’s victory lifted her cash stash to $99,129.
