Some Royalty did on Thursday what no other trotter has done in 2018 at Saratoga Casino Hotel when she won for the sixth time of the season.
The Angus Mac Donald-trainee daughter of RC Royalty won her final start of 2017, went five-for-five to begin this season and still wasn’t the favourite in the $9,630 co-featured event for New York sired trotters on Thursday as she tasked to take on a very sharp rival.
Billy Dobson moved Some Royalty out to the lead and after the race’s favourite made a break around the final turn, her lead lengthened in the stretch. Though she got a bit tired in the final strides, Some Royalty had enough left to win for the seventh consecutive time and to set a lifetime mark of 1:57.4.
Recording her sixth win on the campaign, Some Royalty joined claiming pacer Docs Zippy as the only two horses to register as many as six victories in the young season at the Spa.
Just as was the case last Thursday, Mac Donald trainees won both halves of the co-features as Cash N Chrome (Kim Crawford) prevailed in the other $9,630 race for New York sired high-steppers when he came from off the pace to win in 1:59.3.
Live racing continues on Friday night with a first post time of 6:45 p.m.
