Boffin established a new track record for aged male trotters on Sunday afternoon at Miami Valley Raceway stopping the teletimer in 1:53.4 for his second straight Open Trot triumph.
Driver Tyler Smith was content to let others duke it out on the front end early before moving into the outer flow down the backstretch and cruising to an easy win in the lane. Tyler Tinch trains the five-year-old son of Donato Hanover for owner Angela Coombs.
Boffin now has five wins in eight 2015 starts, and with 20 career victories, has now surpassed the $200,000 earnings plateau.
War Cry Hall (Josh Sutton) finished second in the $17,050 race with Cantcutthatchip (Jack Dailey) garnering the show dough. Rehab Mountain, who actually finished third in the race but was placed sixth for interference, did hold the previous track standard of 1:54.3.
Only trotting mare Maven, who won a Grand Circuit stake at Miami Valley last May, has trotted a faster mile (1:53.3) over the acclaimed five-eighths mile oval.
Atlas Peak (Hugh Beatty Jr.) came from far back to win the $18,500 championship leg of the Dr. Dan Farwick Memorial Series for top conditioned trotters.
Sixth in the seven-horse field until after the three-quarter station, Atlas Peak stormed home quickest of all to nip Touchdown As (Tyler Smith) by a head at the wire with Cerveza Dinero (Jeff Nisonger) finishing third. My Ghost Bi (Dan Noble) cut all the early fractions of :28.4, :58 and 1:26.2 before fading to fourth in the stretch dash for the cash.
Beatty trains and co-owns the winner with Charles Guiler.
Dr. Farwick was a most dedicated and respected veterinarian throughout southwest Ohio for decades. The Farwick Memorial was the last of nine ‘Lebanon Legends’ series to be completed over the last six weeks at Miami Valley.
A special make-up program is slated for Tuesday night with a 6:30 p.m. post time.
