On Monday, April 11, Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman vetoed Legislative Bill 806, a measure which would have seen 'instant racing' machines legalized within state racetracks
.
As a report by the Omaha World-Herald explains, the bill had received 26 votes in its favour before having been passed along to the Governor. The bill would need 30 votes in its favour if the Governor's veto is to be overturned (the bill did not receive that much support at any time during its time in the legislature).
State Senator Ken Schilz, a supporter of the legislation, said that he and the bill's other supporters will attempt to get the Governor's veto overturned, but acknowledged that the task will not be easy.
“I know it looks like a pretty uphill climb," Sen. Schilz was quoted as saying, "but I think certain efforts are worth doing. We'll just have to see how the chips fall.”
