Fifty Ways capitalized on a second-over trip to win the $18,000 Select Handicap Trot at Bally's Dover on Tuesday evening (March 7).
Despite the windy conditions, Skyway Bebop and Quiksilvr Bluechip left with determination out of the gate. Skyway Bebop won the early battle, forcing Quiksilvr Bluechip to the pocket as they passed the opening quarter in :27.3. Skyway Bebop maintained a comfortable lead through the half in :56. As they approached the three-quarters in 1:25.1, Gaelihill made his way first over on the outside to challenge the leader. Fifty Ways followed Gaelihill's path second over. The betting favourite, Swan In Motion, attempted a third-over move following, but the bid stalled. At the top of the stretch, Fifty Ways (Mike Cole) circled four-wide and stormed home to win by a neck in 1:55.1. Quiksilvr Bluechip (Victor Kirby) finished second and Skyway Bebop (Tony Morgan) was third.
Fifty Ways is trained by Joe Columbo for owners George and Tina Dennis Racing.
The five-year-old Donato Hanover gelding returned $10 to win as the 4-1 third choice on the board.
Driver Tony Morgan steered six horses to victory on the 12-race card. His winning drives were courtesy of Fashion Hall ($3.80), Family Four Ever ($2.60), Magical Major ($10), Lizzy Lauxmont ($2.60), Imastunner ($3.80) and Man In The Box ($20.80).
Racing resumes at Bally's Dover on Wednesday (March 8) with the $40,000 Mares Invitational Pace celebrating Women's Day headlining the card. First race post time is at 4:30 p.m.
