It has been reported that a racing jurisdiction has passed legislation that will allow racetracks to ban trainers that have a history of using performance-enhancing drugs on their horses.
According to an article by KRQE News 13, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez signed Senate Bill 116 into law on Monday (March 3).
The report states that the new law allows racetrack operators to basically ban trainers from racing at their tracks if the trainer’s licence has been suspended or revoked by the racing commission because of doping.
“In New Mexico, we’ve worked hard to continue to protect the integrity of the sport of horse racing,” Gov. Martinez was quoted as saying via release. “This law better equips racetrack operators and officials to stand up to cheaters, and protect horses and jockeys from those who undermine the integrity of the sport.”
