Driver Randy Waples worked out a perfect second over trip aboard 14-1 shot Pancleefandarpels to capture the $32,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace over favourite Four Starz Horndog on Friday night at Woodbine
Racetrack.
Ardor Locke (Mark MacDonald) took command of the field ahead of early leaver Warrawee Koine (Rick Zeron) just before the :27.1 opening quarter while Waples and Pancleefandarpels got away fifth.
Warrawee Koine moved back out for the re-take down the backstretch, but was forced back into the two-hole when 6-5 favourite Four Starz Horndog (Sylvain Filion), a winner in her last two Preferred outings, rushed to command past the :56.2 half-mile mark.
As Four Starz Horndog headed into the final turn, Bunny In The Bank (Chris Christoforou) moved underway from fourth with Pancleefandarpels following her cover.
Still in control, Four Starz Horndog passed the three-quarters mark in 1:25.4 and headed for home. Bunny In The Bank only made it to her wheel, but a rallying Pancleefandarpels paced right on by to score in 1:54.1 by three-quarters of a length. Four Starz Horndog held on for second while Warrawee Koine squeezed up the rail to grab third.
Pancleefandarpels paid $30.20 for the upset. The daughter of Noble Ability-Teamtress earned her third win in five seasonal starts and pushed her 2011 earnings to $34,240 for trainer Bob McIntosh and owner-breeder Peter Pan Stables Inc. of Pepper Pike, Ohio. Sent postward for the 100th time in her career, the seven-year-old mare picked up her 30th victory. She now boasts a bankroll of over $820,000.
