After sweeping the three-week Spartacus Claiming Series in February, seven-year-old Camluck gelding Kiss My Cam has earned two more consecutive victories at the Open level at Fraser Downs

In Friday's $12,500 Open Pace, Cash Account (Carl Sibiga) fired to the lead with Kiss My Cam and Jim Marino tucking into the pocket during a :27.1 first quarter. After aborting an early move from the two-hole in front of the grandstand, Kiss My Cam elected to play follow the leader en route to the half in :56.3. As the field neared the 1:24.4 third quarter station, Kiss My Cam made his move and went head-to-head with the pacesetter at the top of the lane. The 4-5 favourite pulled away in deep stretch to score by five and a half lengths in 1:53 over a sloppy track rated two seconds slow. Killean Cut Kid (Brandon Campbell) finished second and Beach Boy Toy (Dave Hudon) was third.

Kiss My Cam paid $2.90 to win. The gelding, who was claimed for $6,000 on Jan. 29 by trainer Ed Hensley and the J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C., has won five consecutive starts for his new connections, including a 1:51.2 effort in the Spartacus Claiming Series Final, which lowered the track record for aged geldings. Kiss My Cam is now five-for-eight on the year with $29,406 earned. Lifetime, he was recorded 22 wins while banking $157,137.

Fraser Downs also held its annual Powder Puff Derby for Harness The Hope on Friday night, a fundraiser for breast cancer research, featuring all female drivers. Kayla Mills won the non-wagering race, which was contested between the seventh and eighth races.

With the horses sporting pink hooves and matching equipment, the ladies took to the muddy track in jog carts. Driving Thisisbliss, Mills followed Amber Lancaster and her charge through fractions of :29.1, 1:00.1 and 1:32.1 before coming on to score in 2:03.4.

"Actually, I don't mind the mud too much but in the two-hole it was flying right in my eyes," laughed Mills in the winner's circle. "I was just trying not to run Amber over. I thought pulling was a mistake, but it worked out."

Thisisbliss, a nine-year-old Blissfull Hall-Bunting gelding, is trained by Dave Hudon and owned by Kayla's mother, Diana Mills.
