Windsun Twister has been thrust into the spotlight due to Monday's accident at Woodbine Racetrack. The added attention has allowed some to see just how good a
horse he is turning out to be.
In an article today by the Brantford Expositor, Ray Baxter, co-owner of the four-year-old Camotion gelding, explains that an average, run-of-the-mill gelding during his two-year-old season caused the brown pacer to have a tough freshman season. As the article explains, issues also followed at three.
Now as a four-year-old, the career winner of five races and $90,564 is coming into his own. From seven starts this season Windsun Twister has amassed a record of 3-2-1 and over $65,000. He had also just produced a new mark of 1:53.4 at Woodbine prior to the accident-marred final of the Ontario Boys Pacing Series, which he won in 1:56. Windsun Twister was one of two horses to finish the event.
"I woke up three or four times last night thinking about that race," the 66-year-old Baxter was quoted as saying Tuesday morning.
"I've seen thousands and thousands of races but I don't recall ever seeing one where only two horses finished. Usually, somebody gets around it but this time everybody went off the bike."
