Georgian Downs 2012 opening card on Saturday night proved to be extra special for Norie Hasspieler, who earned her first training win
.
Hasspieler sent out Alibi Terror in the fifth race and the Western Terror-Justasign Hanover filly broke her own maiden with a 1:57.1 effort in rein to Tyler Moore. The three-year-old filly was caught three-wide from Post 9 by the quarter pole, but cleared to command and cruised to a one and three-quarter length score. She earned her first win in five tries while providing 52-year-old Uxbridge, Ont. resident Hasspieler with her first from 14 starters. Alibi Terror paid $38.70 for the 18-1 upset.
In the evening's featured $15,000 Preferred 2 Pace, My Man Charley held off a pesky Rock Me Amastreos to win in 1:53.4 for driver J.R. Plante and trainer Victor Puddy.
My Man Charley swept around favourite and eventual third place finisher Carolines Cullen N (Travis Henry) past the :27.4 opening quarter mark and reached the half in :57.4 and three-quarters in 1:25.4 while Rock Me Amastreos fired three-wide and laid on the pressure. However, My Man Charley managed to hold off that rival by half a length, paying $12.80 to win as the 5-1 fourth choice.
The Mach Three-Break Of Day four-year-old earned his second win in 11 starts this year for the Wheels In Motion Stable of Burlington, Ont., Jerome Voldock of Arnprior, Ont., and Limco Inc. of Chateauguay, Que. The win was his eighth lifetime and lifted his earnings to $135,685.
