High-Priced Maiden Breaker At Woodbine

After getting picked off in the final strides of his pari-mutuel debut, the highly-touted Manchester Hanover returned to Woodbine Racetrack on Thursday evening and prevailed in his second go around

The three-year-old son of Western Ideal-Mary Mattgalane, who was a $120,000 purchase from the 2009 Lexington Select Yearling Sale, tracked cover before sprinting home to win handily in a time of 1:56.1 for the partnership of Tom Hill of Lancashire, GB and Casie Coleman Stables of Cambridge, ON.

Mark MacDonald tucked into an early four-hole with Manchester Hanover before tipping him to the outside as the field neared the mid-way point. The gelding got jammed up following poor cover past the half in a :58-second clip, but he continued to follow in that position all the way to the three-quarter pole in 1:27.4 before going into sprint mode. When MacDonald called on the Casie Coleman trainee, he unleashed a :27.4 final frame en route to posting the one-length tally.

The youngster, who is one of eighty-three sophomores nominated to Woodbine’s marquee pacing event – the Pepsi North America Cup, is a brother to the likes of Lady Mattgalane (1:51 - $389,613), My Time Hanover (1:51.3 - $236,457), Marymatt Hanover (1:49.4 - $224,672) and Meirs Hanover (1:50.3 - $185,939).
