It has been reported that Northlands Park has been forced to close a barn on its premises due to a strangles outbreak that recently claimed the life of a standardbred during the recently-concluded meet.
The information comes courtesy of Curtis Stock in an Edmonton Sun article.
The report cites Horse Racing Alberta commission veterinarian Dr. Peter Martin as saying that he knew one standardbred passed away due to the disease. Although, the article states that Alan Bott, Northlands' race secretary, was aware of two horse having passed recently due to the sometimes lethal upper respiratory bacterial infection.
Both Bott and Dr. Martin offer some interesting comments in the Edmonton Sun piece, which can be read in its entirety by clicking here.
