The freshman pacer White Bliss may have garnered all of the attention last fall due to his pure white appearance, but at the Meadows an unusual trotter has picked up quite a following thanks to her ‘fancy’ look.
Fancy Sierra Star is a rarity in her own right. She is a two-year-old pinto Standardbred, getting her colouring from her second dam. A daughter of Sierra Kosmos out of a Larks Crown mare, the second dam is listed as ‘breeding not proven’ in the official United States Trotting Association log.
“For the most part, nobody believed she was really a Standardbred, until they actually saw her on the track and figured ‘why would we be doing this if she weren’t?’” said Moira Fahy. “I think they have finally come to accept the fact that she is a Standardbred.”
Now a member of the Bill and Moira Fahy Stable, Fancy Sierra Star stepped in front of the camera at the Meadows this week in a video produced by Jeff Zidek.
“It still remains to be seen if she has the ability,” said Moira. “I know she had some brothers and sisters that did race at some fairs and at a few pari-mutuels (tracks), but nothing outstanding so far.
“She’s been in just under three minutes. It might take a little longer for her (to lower her time), but she is trying.”
