T-Bred Trainer’s HOF Nom Tabled

The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame announced last week that it has tabled the 2014 nomination of thoroughbred trainer Steve Asmussen.

The decision came after a report of mistreatment of racehorses in his care. The day after the news of the allegation broke, the New York State Gaming Commission announced that it was launching an investigation into the matter.

Over the weekend it was reported that Asmussen’s top assistant, Scott Blasi, had been relieved of his responsibilities with the stable.

In its statement on the tabling of Asmussen’s nomination, the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame said in part that it “has decided it is in the best interests of the institution and the sport of thoroughbred racing in general to table the 2014 Hall of Fame nomination of trainer Steve Asmussen.”

It is beyond comprehension that the Racing Industry from top to bottom were not aware of Mr. Asmussen and countless others similar activities, and yet he and similar others are in or will be in the Hall of Fame.
