Define The World chalked up his first win of the 2010 campaign on Monday evening at Woodbine Racetrack, and he beat some of Canada’s top older trotters
in the process.
After a solid runner-up effort in last week’s third start off the shelf for trainer John Bax, Define The World returned to the Mega City oval and played another game of “catch me if you can” for driver Paul MacDonell.
The five-year-old son of Duke Of York-Venice Holiday found himself sandwiched between Armbro Chronicle and Scorpion Moon when the teletimer flashed up in :26.2 as the field whizzed by the quarter pole. Armbro Scorpion eventually cleared to the top, but it didn’t take long for MacDonell to roll Define The World back to the outside.
The gelding cleared to the top in a matter of strides and that enabled him to dictate the tempo on the way to the half. He put up a very sensible :56.4 clocking to reach the mid-way juncture and it was more of the same going to the three-quarter pole, which flashed up in 1:27.
With the middle half in just 1:00.3, Define The World hit warp speed when called on to do in the lane, and the Al Libfeld-owned homebred used a :28.3 final frame to win by more than one length in 1:55.3 over a track rated ‘Good’ by the ORC Judges. Bank President, who was sent off at odds of 50-1, rallied to finish second and Armbro Chronicle, who won the last two editions of the Open Trot, finished third.
It was the 22nd lifetime triumph for the Ontario Sires Stakes graduate, who has banked $1,057,481 to date.
