The betting public didn’t like the chances of Meadowview Matty winning Tuesday’s $15,500 Preferred Trot at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, but that didn’t stop the gelding from pulling off a 50-1 stunner in the featured affair.

Meadowview Matty and driver Robert Shepherd rallied to win in going away fashion in a time of 1:58.2, and in doing so the OSS graduate returned a handsome $104.90 for every $2 wagered on his nose.

Starting from Post 7 in the eight-horse tilt, Shepherd got away fifth with the Brad Shakes trainee while Dashing Earl and Friendly Amigo exchanges blows to the quarter pole in :27.4 before the latter worked her way to the lead. Friendly Amigo hit the half in :58.4, but she was overtaken by the first-over Meadowview Matty in the backstretch.

Meadowview Matty tripped the teletimer beam at the three-quarter pole in 1:27.4, and he used a :30.3 final frame to seal the deal by 2-3/4 lengths over Dashing Earl. Logans Hero recovered from a break behind the starting gate to grab to grab the show dough.

Shakes shares ownership on the eight-year-old son of Angus Hall-Meadowview Molly with Ken Winters of Singhampton and Cal Patterson of Wasaga Beach, ON. The partners watched the veteran get his picture taken for the second time this season, and for the 29th time in his career. The hard-knocking performer upped his lifetime earnings to $372,275 in the process.
