Jans Rich Girl kicked off a training triple for Scott Knight on Friday night at Fraser Downs as she held off Alberta's top older mare River Lass in the featured $10,500 feature for pacing mares.
Knight settled Jans Rich Girl away third in the second race while Prairie Illusion (Keith Clark) led the way through early fractions of :28.4 and :59.2.
Jans Rich Girl made her move down the backstretch and took over command by the 1:27.3 third quarter station with favourite River Lass (Tim Brown) hot on her heels.
However, Jans Rich Girl managed to keep the defending class champion at bay to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:56 over the sloppy surface rated two seconds off. Pocket-sitter Call Me Up (Jim Marino), the longest shot on the board at odds of 14-1, finished two and a half length behind in third.
Jans Rich Girl paid $11.70 to win as the 9-2 fourth choice.
The eight-year-old Camluck-Rich Jan mare, who went over the $300,000 earnings mark with her 34th career win, is owned and bred by the Sunbury Stables of Aldergrove, B.C. She sports a record reading 2-2-2 in seven starts this year.
Knight's triple also included wins by Beach Boy Toy ($8.50), driven by David McKellar, in the seventh race and Kg Mattattack ($12.10) in the 10th.
