Cash Account beat last week's Open Pace winner at Fraser Downs to the lead and held off first over challenger Wrangler Hitech to win Friday night's $12,500 edition by
a neck.
Cash Account, with catch-driver Ed Hensley in the bike, forced a parked out Killean Cut Kid (Brandon Campbell) into the pocket during a speedy :26.3 opening quarter and then proceeded to the half in :54.3 and three-quarters in 1:23.1 with Hitech Wrangler, part of the 6-5 favoured entry, advancing first over from fifth. Wrangler Hitech narrowed Cash Account's two and a half length lead in the stretch but not enough to steal the glory. Cash Account held on for the 1:52.3 victory over his challenger while Cowboy Hanover (David McKellar) finished five lengths back in third.
The eight-year-old son of D M Dilinger-Twice Royal earned his second win in 10 seasonal starts and pushed his earnings to $21,215 for trainer Heather Sifert and co-owner Calvin Nyuli of Abbotsford, B.C. His career bankroll now stands at $209,469.
Cash Account paid $7.40 to win.
Trainer-driver Keith Clark won three races on the nine-race program with Farm Team ($6.10), Barossa ($9.20) and Easterpromise ($5.20).
