Virginia Stalemate Continues

It has been reported that in Virginia, officials with Colonial Downs and the Horsemen's Benevolent Protective Association are still at odds over 2014 race dates and monetary issues. Since a deal has yet to be struck, off-track wagering locations in the state are still closed.

An article on the situation by the Tidewater Review states that the Virginia Racing Commission held a meeting on Monday to see if the two sides could work out a deal, but nothing came of it.

The report states that the commission and the two sides are scheduled to meet this Thursday (March 20) where a proposal by VRC Vice President D.G. Van Clief is to be discussed. The proposal calls for a 21-date, seven-week live Thoroughbred meet. Races would be held on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Harness racing and online account wagering, which takes place at numerous kiosks around the state, are not affected by the impasse.
