The possibility of two new gambling facilities being erected in the state of Delaware has track officials and Dover's mayor on the offensive

.

According to a report on capegazette.com, a bill looking to expand gambling in the state -- possibly including a new casino in Sussex -- is expected to be presented in the House in about two weeks. The article states that if the bill passes the House, it is expected that it will have a tougher time passing the Senate.

Late last week, the city of Dover sent a letter of opposition to Legislative Hall lawmakers stating that the existing racinos staunchly oppose new venues. The letter reportedly urges elected officials not to support more gaming venues. At one point the letter states, “the overall quality of life in the greater Dover community would surely suffer … the bill stands to benefit no one."

The article cites the letter as saying that the introduction of new gambling venues would hurt the Dover area and jobs. “It’s very important we don’t lose any jobs in Dover,” Dover Mayor Carleton Carey was quoted as saying in the article. “If you spread this too thin, we’ll lose at least 250 jobs, and other jobs will dwindle. It will have a domino effect.”
