After being sidelined with an injury from an accident unrelated to harness racing earlier this winter, O'Brien Award-winning driver Bob McClure has set a timeline for his return to the race bike.
McClure, who sustained a broken femur in a snowmobile accident in mid-January, will be back in action in the coming weeks following successful surgery, physiotherapy and hyperbaric chamber treatments.
"Things progressed a lot faster than expected," McClure told Trot Insider. "I should probably have been back this week, but I want to go to Florida a couple times and with the upcoming break in the racing schedule at Mohawk, I think I'll just aim for March 30 or April 1."
Enjoying time with his young sons during the hockey season has been a silver lining during recovery for the 33-year-old reinsman.
Of course, a visit with reigning Horse of the Year Sylvia Hanover at the Steacy Stable after the O'Brien Awards last month and regular stops at the Etsell Stable have kept McClure looking forward to the stakes season ahead.
McClure is coming off his second best year for earnings having driven winners of more than $6.2 million in 2023. The career winner of 3,345 races last drove on Jan. 15 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
