Astreos Flash Keeps On Rolling

It’s tough to win at the Open level in your first kick at the can and it’s even tougher when you have to do the first-over work, but it didn’t seem to bother the white-hot Astreos Flash one iota on Saturday night

at Woodbine Racetrack.

The six-year-old son of Astreos, who recently joined the stable of trainer Shawn Robinson after being purchased privately by partners Brenton Harris, Stephen Johnson and Gerrie Tucker, dug in late to post his fourth consecutive win and his first in the Open Pace.

Rick Zeron and Astreos Flash watched Keystone Horatio lay down early panels of :25.3 and :55 before going on the attack. They locked horns around the final turn and zipped past the three-quarter pole in 1:24.2 before Astreos Flash edged away. His :27.1 final frame helped propel him to the half-length score over Kindly Poet. Keystone Horatio held on to finish third.

Astreos Flash, who is now an 18-time winner, now owns a 4-1-0 record in nine starts this season. The $25,000 payday boosted his career bankroll to $295,990.
