Schaer On Meadowlands VLT Legislation

In recent weeks and months there have been plenty of articles quoting New Jersey politicians in regard to the possibility of expanded gaming

at New Jersey's Meadowlands complex. To ensure everyone is clear on his stance, Assemblyman Gary Schaer has sent out a letter to the editor of a New Jersey publication.

The short, concise letter appears on northjersey.com and gets right to the point.

In the letter, Schaer states that, along with fellow assemblyman Fred Scalera and three other members of the Assembly, he has introduced legislation which would allow a voter referendum as to whether video lottery terminals should be installed at the Meadowlands Racetrack.

Schaer wrote, "…this proposal would only be a small part of a larger effort to transform the Meadowlands Complex. The practical question is how best to proceed in the short term while keeping our eyes focused on long term goals. I believe VLTs answer immediate needs while the final objective is a casino in the Meadowlands."

He also states that he is pleased that the legislation is "serving as a catalyst for additional discussion of these vital economic issues."
