Fashion Frenzie and driver Louis-Philippe Roy delivered a dominant performance in the $30,000 first leg of the New Holland Trotting Series at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday, March 10.

The New Holland Trotting Series is open to non-winners of $150,000 (fillies and mares $175,000) in 2024.

Locatelli (Phil Hudon) blasted off from post seven to grab the early lead, setting a sharp :28.2 opening quarter. However, Fashion Frenzie and Roy wasted no time reclaiming the front shortly after, settling in comfortably through a half in :57.4 with no immediate pressure. As the field approached the final turn, the 4-5 betting favourite New Rules (Trevor Henry) launched his bid from mid-pack, looking to challenge the leader. After setting a 1:26.4 third quarter, Fashion Frenzie remained strong on the front end, showing no signs of fatigue.

Down the stretch, the Jeff Gillis-trained trotter powered home, never relinquishing command, and stopped the clock in 1:54.4 to capture his first win of the 2025 campaign by 1-1/2 lengths. He returned $4.30 for the victory as the second choice, holding off New Rules, who finished second, while Drebin (James MacDonald) closed late to take third.

Fashion Frenzie, a seven-year-old Archangel-Striking Fashion gelding, is owned by Ecurie Francis Richard Inc., Pierre Guillemette, and Sylvain Richard of Bécancour, Que., along with Gestion Mario Bourgea Inc. of Stanbridge-East, Que. With this victory, the trotter notched his 28th career win, pushing his earnings to an impressive $1,313,867.

The second leg of the New Holland Trotting Series will take place on Monday, March 17, while the first leg of the New Holland Pacing Series will be held on Saturday, March 15.

The first leg of the Pop-Up Series for trotters that are non-winners of $30,000 (fillies and mares $37,500) in 2024 with a minimum of 15 starts or not averaging $1,700 (fillies & mares $2,125) per start in 2024 with a minimum of 15 starts, was contested on Monday evening. The series featured two $16,000 divisions.

In the first division, Cool Clifford ($8.40) trotted to victory in 1:57.4 with Bob McClure in the bike for trainer Gabriella Sasso. The second division went to Macallan ($2.50), who stopped the clock in 1:55.4 for driver Scott Young and trainer Tim Cherwaiko.

The second leg of the Pop-Up Series is set for Monday, March 17, with each division going for $16,000, while the $35,000 final will take place on Monday, March 31.
