Trot Insider has spoken with trainer Per Henriksen for an update on Please Poppy, the classy five-year-old bay that was injured Monday night during the
$50,000 Open Trot at Woodbine Racetrack.
"He suffered a broken coffin bone in his right front (right front leg)," the trainer told Trot Insider. "We took him home last night and had him checked out this morning."
Henriksen told Trot Insider that even though a horse with a broken bone is never a good thing, it could have turned out worse.
"It was a decent break," Henriksen explained. "It wasn't life-threatening or anything. It should heal up relatively quick and he should be 100 per cent soon."
San Pail would go on to capture the Open Trot. Click here to read the write-up on the race.
Please Poppy, trained by Henriksen for Norwegian owners, has made 59 starts in his career and currently sports a record of 11-12-11 with $530,858 in purse earnings and a mark of 1:53.1 taken over Woodbine.
Please Poppy has already banked $101,000 this year, much of which was courtesy of his solid, open-length victory in the $90,000 final of the Glorys Comet Trotting Series.
Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Please Poppy a speedy and full recovery.
