Simulcasting Impasse In Virginia

Published: February 7, 2014 02:16 pm EST

It has been reported that effective today (Thursday, Feb. 7) the eight off-track betting locations in Virginia will not be accepting wagers on thoroughbred racing because a new contract between Colonial Downs and the Virginia Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association is not yet in place.

The news comes courtesy of a report by The Free Lance-Star which explains that the old contract expired on January 30.

The article also explains that harness racing and online account wagering, which takes place at numerous kiosks around the state, are not affected.

The report states that off-track wagering in Virginia brings in roughly $80 million per year.
