The Saturday program at Dover Downs belonged to veteran teamster Tony Morgan, who finished the day with a five-win performance.
Morgan, who has driven winners in excess of $10 million in purse earnings in back-to-back seasons, watched his 2009 win total climb to 88 by the end of today’s 15-race program at the Delaware oval.
He kicked off his day with by winning the first three races behind the likes of Coco Count (1:58.2), Allys Dreamer (1:57) and Tonight AAS (1:56.4). He was back to victory lane in Race 7 thanks to a gate-to-wire score with I M A Trackstar (1:54.3), and he returned again in Race 12 behind Black Tower (1:54.2).
Morgan figures to join a pair of special clubs later this season – the 13,000-win club and the $100 million club. He currently sits at 12,791 wins while his purse total stands at $95,789,784.
