Pop Up Prelims Completed At Mohawk Park

Round two of the Pop Up Series for claiming pacers went postward Monday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park, with a set of $20,000 divisions on tap.

A Boy Named Suuzz made a round trip to victory lane thanks to his come-from-behind tally in the first division for the tandem of driver Bob McClure and trainer Shayne Barrington.

The 12-year-old son of Mr Saratoga-Proxahantis tracked cover and then fired home in :27 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over race favourite I Ama Rocket in 1:52.2.  Private Scott, who cut the opening quarter in :27.4 before watching I Ama Rocket then sail through middle splits of :57 and 1:25, finished third.       

Imagine Stable of L’ange-gardien, Que. owned the veteran, who was then claimed from the winning effort.  The gelding is now three-for-six this season.  The 56-time winner is quickly closing in on $500,000 in career earnings.

Legal Bettor was a popular winner in the second division for the team of driver Doug McNair and trainer Duane Marfisi. 

The eight-year-old son of Bettors Delight-Legal Entity watched Arukidinme Cabbie and JJ Xavier battle to the quarter pole in :27.3 before Legal Bettor motored up to take command as the field moved into the backstretch.  Legal Bettor then posted middle posts of :55.4 and 1:24.4 before using a :27.4 closing quarter to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Rock And Twist in 1:52.3.  Arukidinme Cabbie was third.

The partnership of Roy Sproxton, Harbhajan Singh Dhillon, Darryl Kaplan and Green And Gold Ltd owned the gelding, who was then claimed from the winning effort.  The 24-time winner improved his 2023 record to 2-0-1 from five attempts while bumping his lifetime earnings to $337,160.
