Chick N Tell and driver Ron Pierce used different tactics on Friday night at The Meadowlands, but they still found the winner’s circle to prevail in the $35,000 Invitational Trot.
One week ago, the seven-year-old Glory B River stud unleashed a big backside brush from seventh and pulled away in the lane. Tonight, Pierce slid into third with Chick N Tell at the :28.2 opening quarter before moving to the lead at the three-eighths.
Once in command, Chick N Tell breezed through intervals of :57.2 and 1:26.2, while keeping the first-over Dink Adoo (Dave Miller) at bay. Put under minimal urging from Pierce in the stretch, Chick N Tell stayed game along the rail and won by a half-length in 1:53.4.
Likeabatoutahell (George Brennan) finished second after the pocket ride and Dink Adoo stayed for third.
Linda Toscano does the training in New Jersey for owners John Simmonds and Steve Doyle. It was the third win in five seasonal starts for Chick N Tell, who won for the 30th time in his career and pushed his earnings to $562,441.
