Tipping four wide moving into the final turn, Ufdragons Rocket swept to the front into the stretch and held the lead at the wire to take the $8,500 Preferred 3 Pace at Flamboro Downs on Sunday, Feb. 4 at odds of 7-1 in 1:57.2.
Starting from post eight, Ufdragons Rocket sat sixth through a :28.2 quarter set by Strato Boy, who yielded for the pocket as Senior Market circled to the lead prior to a :58.2 half. First over moved Credit Risk, carrying Wildcat Cam second over, before stalling at three-quarters, forcing the backfield wide as Senior Market led in 1:27.3.
Wildcat Cam moved three wide into the final turn, with Arrived Late edging off the rail to track. Ufdragons Rocket rallied towards the center of the track and took a length-and-a-quarter lead into the stretch. He held a three-quarter lengths lead at the line over Arrived Late, while Wildcat Cam finished third.
A nine-year-old gelding by Dragon Again out of the Camluck mare Pacific Monterey, Ufdragons Rocket, owned by Francois Morin, won his 43rd race in 226 starts, earning $368,316. Trained by Colin Johnson and driven by Robert Shepherd, he paid $16.30 to win.
From the rail, Seeyou Men went wire to wire in the $11,500 Preferred 2 Trot under minimal pressure in 1:58.2.
Leading uncontested through a :28.3 quarter and a :59.1 half, Seeyou Men was challenged first over by favourite Muscle Matters at three-quarters, timed in 1:29, before turning him away into the stretch and extending to a two-and-one-quarter length lead over pocket-rider, stablemate, and full-brother Wildwild Men. Absolut Seelster, from second over, rallied for third.
Owned by Catheline Pelletier and Chantal Gravel, Seeyou Men, a six-year-old gelding by Muscle Mass out of the Angus Hall mare Seeyouinthecircle, Seeyou Men won his 15th race in 60 starts, earning $159,447. Trained by Isabelle Darveau and driven by Robert Shepherd, he paid $5.40 to win.
Trainer Gerard Demer scored a hat trick on the 11-race program, winning with Hp Patriote ($6.10) from second over in 1:56.3, Danzig Moon ($4.20) as the favourite in 1:59.1, and Little Quick ($7.80) from off the pace in 1:59.2. All three were driven by Robert Shepherd, who won a total of six on the card, with his sixth win being Dream On Dream On ($20.80), a six-length winner in 1:55.4.
