The 2010 season ended on a winning note for pacer Pacific Oak, and he has managed to keep the ball rolling two months into his 2011 campaign
.
On Monday, the eight-year-old son of Pacific Rocket-Yankee Delray used his off-the-pace skills to perfection en route to capturing the $14,800 Preferred Pace at Western Fair Raceway.
Pacific Oak got away seventh and last for driver Paul MacKenzie, who watched Major Stone dictate the pace through fractions of :29, 1:00 and 1:30.1 over a track rated “good” with a three-second allowance for time. MacKenzie picked up cover for his charge at the half, and he proceeded to make a bold three-wide move at the three-quarter pole while still sitting sixth.
A :29.4 final quarter kick from the gelding earned him the 2-1/2 length tally over Major Stone in a time of 2:00.3. Oakley Seelster, who did the first over work, was third.
Sent off as the 3-2 favourite, Pacific Oak improved his 2011 record to 4-2-0 in six starts while pushing this year’s earnings to $33,100. Shirley and Kerry House of St. Jacobs, ON share ownership on the 38-time winner who has banked in excess of $350,000 to date.
