William Pendleton's Casimir Swamp Girl ($7.20) sustained a first-over attack and outlasted the late pursuit of a 3-5 favourite in Wednesday's (Feb. 26) featured $10,500 Preferred 2 Pace for fillies and mares at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, taking her fifth consecutive win in the act.
Colin Kelly angled the four-year-old Up The Credit mare out of third with just over a circuit to go, and the pair encroached on 19-1 pacesetter Amethyst Seelster (Marc St. Louis Jr.) nearing a :58 half. On the second circuit, Casimir Swamp Girl duelled to a narrow lead past three-quarters in 1:27.2 before widening her advantage on the final turn.
Up by two lengths turning for home, Casimir Swamp Girl outlasted the chase of Catch An Ace (J Harris) — who enjoyed live second-over flow — by 1-3/4 lengths to win in 1:57. Catch An Ace checked in a clear second, while Amethyst Seelster was a beaten third.
Kyle Bossence trains Casimir Swamp Girl, who now has 13 victories to her name.
In the sub-featured $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot, Nebraska Jack ($2.70, St. Louis) and Angels Kid ($2.80 Scott Wray) tied for top honours, finishing in a 2:00.2 dead heat while 4-1/4 lengths clear of Played By Swan.
