A stretch-dash from Baximum proved successful again as he scored a 1:54.2 victory in the $20,000 Open Trot at Dover Downs on Wednesday.
In his usual style, driver Daryl Bier waited in the back of the field before putting Baximum into full flight turning for home. It was no contest in the lane as the Cantab Hall-Bax Machine gelding rushed past the duelling Green Day (Vic Kirby) and Spunky Jack (Roger Plante) to win by two lengths. The win was the second straight for the seven-year-old trained by Bobby Clark and owned by Tina Clark and Joe Clark. His 22nd career win brought his lifetime earnings to $447,014.
Earlier, Eddie Dennis steered Im So Striking along the passing lane to roll by Can Do (Vic Kirby) and Looking Hanover (Ron Pierce) for a 1:55.4 score. Dennis also conditions the So Striking-Ringside Katie gelding owned by Lois and Earl Walters and E&K Stable. The win was Im So Striking’s third of the year and 11th lifetime pushing his earnings to $178,088. Can Do got up for second with Looking Hanover settling for third.
Vic Kirby had a three-win day. Corey Callahan and Ron Pierce each won two as did meet-leading trainer Dylan Davis.
All Stienam returns to this week’s $27,500 Delaware Special meeting Nova Artist and Feel Like A Fool, last week’s winner, in an eight-horse field.
