The actions of an unwanted visitor forced the ORC Judges at Woodbine Racetrack to refund a pair of starters in Race 10 on Thursday evening

.

Just as the field was nearing the mid-way point of the opening turn a raccoon ran from the outside of the track and darted toward the infield. In the video below you can see the villainous varmint narrowly avoid being turned into roadkill at about the 1:02 mark.

After reviewing the replays from various angles the ORC Judges determined the first two horses (#4 Smokin N Grinin and #2 Puff Mommy) were interfered with by the raccoon. As a result, those two horses were declared “non-contestants” and then refunded. They were both charted with interference breaks.

Evidently, the total amount of money refunded on the race was $56,327.

As I watched the replay I never did see the raccoon? The judges usually call the drivers up don't they? That call was the worst of many unusual calls.judges please explain!,,,

On May 20, 2006 geese were in the stretch (of the 10th race at Mohawk) and the entire moneies refunded. It was a 7 horse field and 4 finished the race without breaking/interference and the other 3 showed an X or I the next day on their lines.

I watched the video of the racoon and the horse was not that alarmed by the racoon and still got to the front. Why refund two horses when the entire field was refunded in 2006?

I played the 10th race at Mohawk; in which my favorite pacer, Franco Catapult N finished 2nd. It came out 7/4/2 in the race. Why refund two horses monies out of one race and the entire field out of another race? It puzzles me a bit.

Thank you for listening.

If the judges gave refunds for that, they shouldn't have. Only the first two horses saw the raccoon and the same two were still on top until deep stretch. The 4 to 5 favourite had a head nod and din't look like it should have raced at all.
