New millionaire Waasmula wired a field of Preferred mares for her second straight victory this year at Woodbine Racetrack in the $30,000 feature early Friday evening (February 24).
Leaving from post two, Waasmula was quick off the gate and led the compact field of distaffers that was scratched down to just five starters all the way in rein to driver Trevor Henry. After a :27.3 opening panel over the 'good' track, the Bruce Goit trainee took a second-quarter to the half in :57 and then began to open up on top by three-quarters in 1:25.3 en route to the 1:52.4 victory.
Waasmula paid $7.30 to win as the 5-2 second wagering choice. Sayitall BB (Travis Cullen) chased the winner from the pocket while 2-5 favourite Sandbetweenurtoes (Doug McNair) closed from the back of the pack for third in her return to action after a three-week layoff that followed three straight wins in the top class.
Dazzling Rockette and Rubis Prescott completed the field. Wrangler Magic was scratched.
The victory was Waasmula's 31st lifetime and pushed her bankroll to $1.03 million. The nine-year-old daughter of Million Dollar Cam out of the Apaches Fame mare Waasmowin is owned and was bred by Brent Vincent of Allenford, Ont.
