According to a story by The Belleville Intelligencer, Nepean-Carleton MPP Lisa MacLeod has said that the doors to the New Quinte Exhibition and Raceway should stay closed until live racing is taking place, not when the slots parlour is ready to hit the ground running
.
“No races equals no slot,” MacLeod, vice chairwoman of the standing committee on government agencies, was quoted as saying. “It’s a direct attack on the racing industry if it’s allowed to happen that way.”
The article states that allowing the machines to operate at any facility when there is no racing could set a precedent where other operators will decide to do away with racing and simply run the slot machines.
The article states that Mario Joanette, spokesperson for Baymount Inc., has said the company is required to have the half-mile track open within nine months of the slots opening.
“Someone needs to be accountable and make Baymount open up at a particular date,” horseman Alan Hrenyk was quoted as saying.

It's nice to see someone is finally getting involved and doing the right thing.
NO TRACK NO SLOTS,this has gone on so long it's laughable. I can't believe the town council of Belleville or the OLG haven't done something about Baymount before now.
The amount of money that has been lost over the 6 or 7 years they were suppose to built the track is large.Just imagine the money lost on truck sales. the gas stations and the retaurants in the area, the farmers that supply the straw, grain and hay. the horsemen's purse money and the wages for people that work on all aspects of a casino and race track.
If Leona Dombrousky thinks that Baymount is committed to anything,she should have been at all of the meetings Baymount personal attended. Every timeline they set for the track to be built has been a bunch of B-- Sh--
If you let them build the casino without the track, we'll wait another 6 or 7 years for the track to be built. They either don't have the funds or the desire to go ahead with the project.
