Trainer-driver Ron Graham is on the road to recovery after a nasty spill left one arm a mangled mess
. The wreck on February 14 in Edmonton resulted in eight hours of surgery to put together his left arm.
When the 64-year-old horseman asked his medical team how bad the break in the arm was, the response was: "(They) said 23 pieces of crumbled bones (were counted) - right (around) the elbow." Graham is now facing at least four months of recovery.
"There is no cast. It's in a sling - all wrapped up," continued Graham to thehorses.com, whose stable was off to a hot start for the Edmonton spring meet when he fell as part of a three-horse accident. "I was down at the barn (this weekend) just walking around giving orders."
Regarded as one of the most personable trainers/drivers on the Alberta circuit, Graham believes he will drive again this year. As for what happened in that accident one week ago, his memory is clear. "The grossest thing was I looked at my arm and it was turned around the other way," he recalled.
